Here's a mini, stream of consciousness comic I drew back in December for fun. You can tell that winter claustrophobia was an unconscious motivator for this. I would certainly like to continue something like this some day.

Boston life with monsters.

This is from walkin' around Boston followed by a trip to the Museum of Fine Art. They had an exhibit of Odilon Redon's lithographs that were inspiring as hell! Than it was off to the African and oceanic wing to draw some freaky heads. Those tribal head ornaments were so Kirby!

I went to the Harvard Museum of Natural History recently and drew some stuffed, dead things (not the folks on the subway ride there on the left--they were mostly alive). I also took some pictures of funky rocks and minerals. Enough inspiration at that place for texture and form to keep you busy for half a lifetime.

Figure drawing on 18"x24" in brush pen. One of my pens died halfway through the first drawing but it made this great grey for those lighter values on the rest of the doodles.

The poses ranged from 30-45 minutes.

My experiment with micron instead of ballpoint continues. Lots of pages with mixed results so far.

a new challenge

I've decided recently to undertake a new challenge; I suspect my comfort with the ballpoint pen may be stunting (comfort is for old ladies!) SO in my daily field drawing and doodling I'm only going to use those tools that I use for my comic work. I'm trying to close the disparity between my comic pages and my sketchbook and I think this is worth the ol' college try. So it's microns, japanese pens, brush, brush pens, etc for drawing and the ballpoint is going to stay on the sidelines for awhile. So you folks can see my updates and let me know if my progress is pathetic or not.

Folks at the cafe. The one on the bottom left was an attempt at micron and the others are all my addictively comfortable ballpoint. I shall quite you one day ballpoint. One day...
